7 tips for Museum Night

7 tips for Museum Night

This Saturday, 7 November 2015, we gather for an evening filled with art, music and lectures. Hurrah, it's Museum Night! More than 50 Amsterdam based museums welcome you from 19:00 till 02:00 to check out their permanent collections, but also performances, special tours and other things to do. We wrote down seven activities we think you should attend: from a silent bar to a course about plants and a beastly sex workshop.

1 Youth Food Café
The Youth Food Movement interviews several influentials in their own little cafe, like journalist Joël Broekaert (Vrij Nederland), entrepreneur Willem Treep (#12 in Trouws ‘Duurzame 100’) , chef and stylist Yvette van Boven and butcher Gertjan Kiers. Yep, you can find out how we can improve our food chains in good company.
Huize Frankendael, 19:00 - 0:00

2 It’s a jungle in here!
Three greenhouses. Three climates. Three tours. And numerous things to learn. Each greenhouse represents another climate, teaching you stuff that might come in handy someday. How to find water in the desert? Which plants to eat in the jungle? And how to take care of a wound in the Australian outbacks? All will be unraveled.
De Hortus, 19:00 - 23:45

3 Bio-experimental bar
Let’s have some wine out of a… test tube? Or maybe a cocktail mixed in a erlenmeyer flask? In this bio experimental bar, crazy formulas are made. Expect drinks straight from the microbiology kitchen and fermented bites.
Waag Society, 19:00 - 02:00

4 World heritage at home
Amsterdams canals, the Wadden Sea, the windmills at Kinderdijk. Photographer Hans Aarsman captured these treasured places in our treasured homes. Yep, UNESCO World Heritage in toilets, living rooms and kitchens. Get ready for an exhibition as unique as the pictured items.
Stadsarchief, 19:00 - 02:00

5 Beastly sex
Yep, over at the Strawberry Earth HQ we’re pretty much into the birds and the bees, if you know what we mean. So hell yes, sign us up for a course about animal intercourse. In the zoo (of course) we’ll find out if gay relationships exist amongst our furry friends and which ones like a little foreplay.
Artis, 19:30 - 20:00 & 20:30 - 21:00 & 21:30 - 22:00 & 23:30 - 0:00

6 Night college
What do plants mean for people who live in the jungle? Tinde van Andel is a professor in the fields of gardens and botanics, and did a whole lot of research in Surinam and West-Africa. Places where people believe plants have certain (healing) powers even. Of course all plants in this lecture are present, we’re inside De Hortus after all.
De Hortus, 20:00 - 20:30 & 22:00 - 22:30

7 Silent bar
Take us to church. Nope, we’re not singing along with Hozier here, we’re talking about our plans for Saturday night. Over at the Oude Kerk, drinks are served in silence. The waiters are deaf and take your orders in sign language, which gives you the chance to understand their world and to have a very mindful evening.
Oude Kerk, 19:00 - 02:00
