I was there myself earlier this year (for the second time!) and I couldn't resist sharing their story with you. You see, although Herdade da Matinha is super stylish, beautifully located and has been featured in many design magazines, this is not what makes the home of Alfredo and Monica so wonderful. Their ability to make every guest feel special, like you're the first person they've seen all year as well as the cosiness of their home is what makes me want to keep going back. They have rooms for families, couples looking for a romantic break, a yoga studio, horse stables and even space that people can rent out for creative brainstorm sessions and meetings. But even with all this, every individual is made to feel at home at Herdade da Matinha.
There are no two ways about it, Herdade da Matinha is a magical place. Whether you're dining on their picturesque terrace drinking a glass of wine or sitting indoors enjoying their traditional home cooked meals yore guaranteed to feel relaxed and content. I imagine that every visitor to Herdade has their own favourite memory, as there is so much to enjoy. Almost every evening I was transfixed by: the setting sun and sounds of the goats' bells ringing a kilometre or two away; the smell of Alfredo's fig trees and eucalyptus; the cheerful "bom dia" Monica would give me as I sipped on my freshly brewed coffee and baked bread every morning. And when you do feel like escaping and their little paradise, the beaches of Portugal's Alentejo region are just a few kilometres away (walkable if you're fit(!) or reachable within 15mins by car).
In short, Alfredo and Monica have carved out a wonderful corner of the world for themselves and they're happy sharing it with you. Your Portuguese getaway awaits... Maybe we'll bump into one another too because I don't think I can resist another visit in 2015!
