Into The Great Wide Open!

My most precious moment of 2013 is my trip to INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN on Vlieland. "But 2013 is not finished yet!", I hear you say. Even so, I already know that experiencing this amazing festival is the highlight of my year.

Just making our way to it was already very special! Together with friends I sailed from Makkum (Friesland) to the beautiful island Vlieland. Sun, sea, wind and great company – the perfect ingredients for a mini holiday!

But it got even better on the island, because I was blown away by the festival. From the great line-up, the delicious 'strawberry proof' food, great guest speakers, inspirational art and warm atmosphere. It’s cosy and intimate and at the same time big and international in the quality of the program.

My personal highlights? The melancholic music from The Revival Hour, listening to the Norwegian folk band Moddi with view of the sea and the fresh and lovely Eefje de Visser. But I enjoyed so much more than great music:

- super tasty organic and local food like fresh fish from Little Kyoto, The Dutch Weed Burger and coffee from The Village.

- A hilarious survival course from Eddie the Eagle in the beautiful forest

- Making paper out of animal poo – what?! Yes. Animal poo!

- The amazing nature on Vlieland with rolling dunes, forest, pitch black skies at night sprinkled with stars and bird-choirs in the morning

Into The Great Wide Open is not just about great music, art and food, but also makes you wonder about natural wonders around you

Forget about the Bahamas – Vlieland is the place to be!
